Yeah I liked him as well. Was he the one that first started the shirt and tie or was it Coach Adams? Do you know if any other schools do that as well? I love to see them look classy like that when traveling. You would think that after all these years I would have learned to tie the tie however I have not...lucky for my his Dad and his girlfriend now can tie them for me...LOL
Yeah, Coach Large started that the first year he came in. He would make you run if you didn't address every person as yes sir and no sir, even if it was your brother and sister, I always liked that side of Buster. Instead of wearing jerseys to school on Fridays we had to wear a shirt and tie, except for homecoming I believe.
I thought it was him that started that but was not sure. Thanks
i member when i was in high school on game days we did have to wear a shirt and tie jerseys were not an option even on homecoming!

A lot of teams are not traveling well. Gas prices are a big factor in attendance at away games this year. At the Pound-Appalachia game I saw an Appalachia family of five go in- probably cost them around $20.00 in gas given their vehicle. A total of at least $45.00 or more for one game -these folks no doubt could afford it- but the cost stresses a lot of people.
The comments made by everyone on the band situation are pretty well on the point. My Mother was a pioneer music and band teacher in the area and it is really distressing to see the retrogression of the music programs. I would agree with Trumpet that band is not cool to a lot of kids- but I think this could be overcome if some decent emphasis was placed on music education. The Coeburn band situation is uncalled for and inexcusable. A failure of responsible action by the county school administration. I have also been told that Dickenson County dropped band due to finances. It is amazing to me that money exists for art, theatre, and some other things but not music. The emphasis being placed on local music tourism should send a message to the local school systems. Indian Dad pointed out the instabilty of the Wise situation and Wise is not alone. Music education has been suffering from not so benign neglect on the part of a lot of administrators. </div></div>
Yes, that is true about Dickenson Co. schools. There was very little interest in having a band in Dickenson Co. Out of the three high schools, there were about 15 students that were interested in having a band.

Some of this years seniors, played in the band their freshmen year. They one the big band competion in Big Stone that year.
This is to no one in particular but something that I noticed about the football, band and cheerleader members (at Wise and may be this way at all schools) is no unity. The band members could care less about the football game and players and same said how the football players feel about the band members. No love lost between the band and the cheerleaders either or football players and cheerleaders. Is this the case at all schools or am I wrong about this?
Not that way at Burton. We have half of our cheerleaders who are also in the band and several football players that play in concert band. This is a team effort as displayed at the games. The football coach and the band director work together to take care of the field. I have never heard the band complain about the football team and vice versa. My daughter has been a band member for 7 years and a cheerleader for 2. This is a community united not divided.
Being an alum from Burton I don't remember there everyting being an issue between the band and football players and/or cheerleaders. Seems like the respect went both ways for each other. One thing that did amaze was big our band was. They were always double in size compare to our football team lol.
I agree Shoe, there was no bad blood between the band/football players, band/cheerleaders, cheerleaders/football players and all the way around at Burton. Most Cheerleaders dated football players anyway. The only fued I can really remember were between the cheerleaders and the flag corp, LOL, don't know why but that is the only thing I can remember.
